Forwindings-19-11-2011

Forwindings flyer

Tickets available online from WeGotTickets

This event on Facebook and Last FM

For the past year or three Forwind Recordings have been quietly assembling a small but beautifully formed roster of left field artists from the UK and Ireland. Forwindings is an event that brings many of them together in the suitably atmospheric setting of London’s Shoreditch Church in an evening of eclectic, and immersive sonic exploration.

Eclectic is the word; the music on offer ranges from sludgecore dub to free improv to dystopic ambient drones to improvised songs to ambient jazz and live electroacoustic processing and a few dozen other hybrids that might not exist just yet. Bring some cushions.

Updated to reflect last minute cancellations from both Beyond 6 and Clang Sayne.

Platform

the moon is a spaceship - Cavernous dub meets stretched whacked out psychedelic dronecore from electric guitar and software in a windtunnel on the edge of a black hole.

Wei-ya Lin & Charlie Beresford - Improvisation for viola and acoustic guitar.

Elvers - Poised, spacey and sometimes deeply groovy free jazz from an acoustic trio of trumpet, bass and drums. “a group to watch” (All About Jazz)

James O’ Sullivan/Found Drowned - Rich abstract soundscapes from a bewildering array of metal objects, an electric guitar and a volume pedal - Keith Rowe with a hint of Chet Atkins, perhaps. Joined by double bass and percussion to explore the missing link between Can, AMM and the Jim Hall Trio.

Ed Devane - Deep listening celestial drones from zithers and processing.

Sonnamble - Immersive electroacoustic improvisation from lapsteel guitar, dobro, viola, percussion and processing. “unveils its profound beauty with great care” (The Milk Factory)

Fourth Page - Improvising quartet play hushed, intense songs that can recall Bill Evans, John Martyn or Morton Feldman. “the kind of song cycle Schubert might have written if he was around today” (Fiona Talkington, Late Junction, Radio 3)
